Does anyone know any information on a fly-in in Iola, KS July 7-10?

This is a really nice fly-in. I am here right now, and there are over 50 PPCs registered. The weather was just perfect Friday night and this morning we all took off on a short cross-country to a hunting lodge where we were served a great breakfast. We bucked quite a headwind on the way there, with ground speeds from 8 MPH to about 18 MPH depending upon altitude. Most of us kept it pretty low. On the way back to the field, I was cruising at 60 MPH ground speed at 1500 feet, and it was smooth as glass.

We've got a seminar this afternoon and then more flying tonight.

I've met several forum members and got to see Paul Holstines' homebuilt single seat - it's really nice. There is a big thread on it in the homebuilt section with a lot of photos.

I would have been there but I had obligations with work (on call). I'm glad you're having a good time. Maybe next year for me.

Fly safe.

The Iola Flyers would like to take this opportunity to thank all those pilots that helped make our fly-in such a success. Four years ago we had a dream of putting on a small fly-in with a select group of friends and pilots. The first group of friend consisted of 18 pilots. On July 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th. of 2005, The Iola Flyers hosted the fourth annual Power of Dreams Fly-in with 55 machines registered. Our goal has always been about safety first and numbers second. We tried to make our fly-in as friendly as possible by personally greeting each and every pilot as they came through the gate. We also this year opened the fly-in to spectators on Sat. evening and made it possible for them to buy a BBQ dinner and a place so they could sit and watch the pilots fly around. The participation by the public was overwhelming and we think we might have had as many as 300-400 in attendance. Over all we think we have created a safe and fun fly-in, but as always there is room for improvement. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestion on how we can improve this fly-in, we are more then willing to listen.
We feel that a large part of our success can be contributed to all those who have came out to help us from individuals who offered their personal time to the City Of Iola, Chamber Of Commerce, and the Allen County Airport. Also many of the visiting pilots who offered their personal expertise such as Ralph McClurg and David Schrag who gave seminars.
The Iola Flyers are a group of pilots that all live within 20 mile of the Allen County Airport that pull together once a year and hoist the Power of Dream Fly-in. We are not a club, (we have no leader ) but rather a group of pilots that love to fly together when the winds are low. We personally invite each and everyone to attend our 5th Power of Dreams Fly-in next year. It will be held the first weekend after the 4th of July. Hope to see everyone there. Ron Smail

Oh man! Wish I'd known. I was in McPherson, KS the week before that helping my brother with wheat harvest. Had I know I would have brought my PPC and come on over the next week.

I guess it's probably just as well I didn't know. I should show up at the office once in a while and see if I still have a job. <LOL>
