View Full Version : PowerFest PPC RALLY
Here is info on the 2005 PowerFest PPC RALLY at the Beaumont Hotel and Bed and Breakfast in Beaumont, Kansas. The hotel boasts as being the home of the original $100 hamburgers. The grass airstrip provides a great place for PPCs and the GA pilots come in there and taxi right into town and up to the hotel for lunch.

I didn't see any pics of the airstrip itself. I saw that the trailers looked like they were all enclosed. Are there any hangars on the strip for people with open trailers, if the weather turns wet?
Zip,
Beaumont is a tiny town with this really cool old hotel. The history of Beaumont is that there is a grass airstrip just east of town -- you can see it on this Virtual Earth site -- (by the way, on this site you can zoom out to see more of the area around Beaumont). During the earlier years of aviation, test pilots from Wichita flying the new Cessnas or Pipers or whatever used to fly over there, land, taxi right up to the hotel, and have lunch in the cafe. It's a pretty neat history. The airstrip is private, but we have been invited to participate in this event. Unfortunately, there are no hangars and no place to store your PPC except in a trailer or under a tent or tarp that you bring.

Hope this helps and hope to be able to fly with you there,

Looked at the map. I think I found where its at. I circled the hotel with yellow, the water tower with blue and the RailRoad tracks with purple.....still not sure where the airstrip is on it though.
(?)
The airstrip is on the right side of the page -- remember, it's a grass strip. It's the long white-looking strip that heads magnetic north and south. The red you highlighted is the old railroad track -- long since been removed.

Just a word of caution on the virtual earth site - I went looking for my house on the site, found the photos for Long Island to be from 1996 or earlier...
Don't depend on these for navigation! The site is cool, though.
