A Clinton, Iowa man was injured Tuesday afternoon after his powered parachute crashed at the Tri-Township airport south of Savanna. The crash occured at 4:07 pm. Injured in the accident was Carl Foley, 37, of Clinton, Iowa.
==========================
He had been out the day before in CALM weather with his instructor. And then he decided to fly the next day (around 4pm). His instructor told him that it might be too windy for him to fly, but he said he'd be ok.
Anyway I guess the guy took off and started veering away over the asphalt runway (before he was high enough) and a gust hit him, and he panicked. And just drove himself faster into the ground. (Runway!!)
Dale (Manager of airport) said that the machine is less than a month old and hadn't even made the first payment on it yet. (No insurance.)
He also mentioned paraplegic as MAYBE being the pilots condition. (I really think its too early to tell at that time if this was the case.) At least I hope not.
