I'm sure this story is copyrighted so I'm posting a link instead of a cut/paste. The story seems to tell the facts. New pilot taking off beside tall trees in the mud and failed to control the unit. There's video as well but not of the crash itself.

Looks like he was in Elba Township in Lapeer County Michigan.

Let's all pray that he will be ok. And if he is, that his wife won't kill him.

The statement that the FAA would not be investigating since an "ultralight is not a registered a/c" is interesting.

Looking at the video, I think he might of been ok if thoses trees were not there. Although a little more runway would of probably helped out and dry conditions. Hope he turns out ok. Kinda makes think that frontal bars are alot safer than nothing out front like what was on his chute.

its very interesting to watch the video and hear the bystanders account of what happened, Why was he trying to take off without full throttle? Hopefully he recovers and gets back on the horse.

Lessons learned here:
1) took only a couple of lessons then soloed.
2) flew on a hot, humid July day.
3) took off up slope without an abort point.
4) 1 + 2 + 3= hospitalization and an angry wife.
