Ok, I'm listing this one in the incidents, because I think we've all 'been there'.
A PPC flys by a house. A little girl starts waving, so the pilot drops down and waves back at her. Then continues on his way.
Unfortunatly what the pilot dosen't know is that her little brother was on a rope ladder playing and the PPC startled him and he fell and was hanging by one foot, till his shoe came off.
A couple of us were flying out of a local place when this mother drove up and asked that we not fly by her house.
I told her I was sorry that something like that had happened. We brought the lil guy over to my plane and had him sit in it with the headphones and talked to him. But he was still uncomfortable around it when I went to take off...(intro flights).
I stopped by her house later after flying and tryed to explain that we almost had to fly by her place because of the layout of the other houses. We squeezed by a golf course and her place to go west. Then she told me of a PPC (she described the chute colors) that had gone over her house just over the trees. In other words, thats what she was really upset about. I told her that I knew most of the local PPC people, but that new people are getting interested in them and that I didn't know if I could get ahold and warn all of them. But that the chute she described belonged to a guy in another town and that I had stopped flying with him, for just that reason. (Low flying over roofs)
Well she finally said she didn't mind flying by, but asked if we could stay closer to the golf course.....I told her that I could climb higher also, so as not to startle any of the kids and that I was really sorry that her son was afraid now.
So I guess the lesson is, the guy flying low KNOWS he's illegal, maybe just dosne't realize the damage he's doing.
The PPC that drops down to wave to a lil girl , didn't know....but they both ended up giving PPC's a black eye.
(they didn't know which PPC scared their son, but I admited that I had seen their lil girl waving and that it COULD have even been me, going down to say hi.)
So I try to be more careful about doing that.
