Did anyone go to the Airventure this past week? Powrachute has added detachable fixed wings to either side of one of its units, claiming more lift. It looks like something from the animated cartoon "Dragontails". (I do not believe those little wings on the dragon's back could carry all that either, let alone the mythical wings of Pegasus) I am no engineer, but it seems that you would need more than a three foot wing on either side to make-up for dragging an inflated "trash bag" behind you. The claim is that they can reduce the square footage of the main wing, make the neccessay lift with the detachables, and increase overall ground speed to about "40" mph.
I'm thinking they could probably acheive that full powered parachute loop, too, if you listened long enough!

I've seen a flown next to the machine you are talking about before Jeff took it to OshKosh. The wings are not intended to make the machine fly faster. The machine flies faster becuase they are flying a heavy two seater with a pd400. However, the lift generated by the wings make the unit able to climb at the same rate as if they had a 500 or 550. The whole point it to have the lift of a large chute with the speed and manuaverability of a smaller one.

Interesting, to say the least. But I must say, I get the same results from my Apco "Hybrid", but to a lesser degree, of course.
I just gotta throw this in, but I have really learned to love this chute. I wouldn't trade it for any chute on the market. Obviously it's not going to perform like an eliptical, but for my purposes, it's the best of both worlds.
