This was in the local paper today.

ST. GEORGE - A man who crashed his powered parachute along the Arizona Strip on Friday is in stable condition after sustaining a severe compound fracture to his leg, police said.

Lt. Jake Adams, of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, said the man dragged himself out of a ravine to a hillside where he was able to get reception on his satellite telephone.

The man was able to provide rescuers with GPS coordinates when he called for help.

He was located by helicopter by Lt. Cory Pulsipher, of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and Jeremy Johnson, a pilot and search-and-rescue volunteer.
"He said he was flying along and it was pretty calm," Pulsipher said. "All of a sudden, he caught a real heavy downdraft, and it pushed him down into the ground."

At least three hours had passed when rescuers arrived, Pulsipher said, but the man was "jovial" and joking about his condition.

He was transported by a second helicopter to Dixie Regional Medical Center, Pulsipher said, as the location was inaccessible by ambulance.

The man's identity was not available Saturday.

Wakeboard,

Thanks for the post. "dragged himself out of a ravine to a hillside" May not be too surprising to find leeward rotors in that type of geography.
