This year we have planned two PPC Caravans. We hope many folks can join us along the way. Last year on PPC Caravan II we had over 50 PPC pilots and many others that joined us for at least part of the trip.
The first caravan is a mini-version which begins on May 18 in the far northwest corner of Kansas in the area known as the Arikaree Breaks -- Kansas's version of the "badlands". We will travel from there to what is known as Post Rock Country in central Kansas. The reason for the name is because of all the fence posts made from quarry stone. Central Kansas had few trees in the old days and rock was plentiful -- thus the stone fences. We will continue into the Flint Hills area of Kansas -- by the way, the Flint Hills will be featured in National Geographic in the April edition. We will end the Kansas Caravan over Memorial Day weekend at Morris and Gloria Yoder's fly-in at Hutchinson, Kansas -- you will recall they were the hosts of the last two Powrachute Extravaganzas.
Should be fun -- everyone is invited.
The second '07 caravan will start in central South Dakota and course through the true Badlands, up by Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Devil's Tower, and down through Custer State Park. This happens the last week of August and the first week of September. If you are planning on attending the Powrachute Extravaganza this year, the caravan ends Sunday before the Big X starts in Wisconsin that starts later that week. So it might be on your way.
If you fly a PPC and if you are fun to travel with, we'd love to meet you have have you join us for all or part of both trips. We have fun both in the air and on the ground. Only major requirement -- we ask you to use an aviaiton radio when flying with our group.
Suzi and I also host one more free event for PPC pilots. We call it the PowerFest PPC Rally. This year will be our 5th annual event. It will be held the week before the PPC Championships and the Color Country Fly-in out in Utah. This year's event will be a little bit longer than our previous ones. It will begin on Thursday and end on Monday. Also on Sunday, October 14, motorcyclists congregate around the Beaumont Hotel and anywhere from 300-500 are expected to interact with us PPC nuts that day. Should be a crazy time. We have not yet posted much on the web site about this event, but I should get around to it soon. So keep checking www.ppcpilot.com for information.
