Hey
I trained and soloed a pilot who bought a AFU single seat. He lives not far from you in Leesburg and would likely want to get together and fly. I'm in Wildwood but I think the nearest instructor to you is Dick Marshall in Sabastian. Give him a call at 561-339-1201.

How much training should I expect? About what should it cost me?

Most CFIs charge aound $100 for flight training. Ground school cost varies widely. I charge $35.00 for ground training. If you train in a two-place machine you can solo in about 3 to 4 hours. That time will likely include learning ground reference manuevers, emergency procedures, collision avoidance etc.
Even though a formal training course is not required I recommend you learn about weather/winds and it's affects on your flying. There are many good weather products on the internet such as www.usairnet.com. Knowing when to fly and when to stay on the ground will serve you better than any other skill in the beginning. Your training cost will be around $500.00 plus or minus a few dollars, but it will be the most important money you'll ever invest in flying. I also suggest you get the FAR/AIM and start reading FAR Part 103 & 91 in advance of your training.
Welcome to PPC flying!

I just read my own post and saw an error. I meant to say $100 per hour. If you get dual training in another PPC it will likely be more. Also you'll have about 45 minutes to 1 hour of ground training associated with each hour of flight training. This would include the pre-flight training briefing, vehicle preflight checks, chute layout and post flight.
Learn as much as you can by visiting this forum, reading and studying. This is all free! The better prepared you are when you're ready for instruction, the faster the learning process will be. There is no minimum training time with a Part 103 vehicle so your total cost will be based on when you are competent to fly safely.
