Hello to all:

I may be posting in the wrong catagoy, if so please advise.
My question:
Where can I find a list of bfi"s for Kentucky and Tennessee? I am new to this sport and would like to talk to an instructor in my area.

Thanks
Professor

Aerosports connection (ASC) or EAA may still have lists. The BFI program "died" on Dec 31, 2007 however and no BFI is now authorized to legally instruct at least in two place aircraft and all the BFI certificates have expired. I guess there is no prohibition against instruction by radio to single seat aircraft if that's what you seek.

Marty, your input. I have noticed alot of complaints from people wanting to find instructors. Always people are referred to the different agencies such as ASC, EAA etc. because thats the only place to get it. Lets face it alot of people come to this web site for info. I don't know who the HMFIC is of the site but since the only instructors now approved are CFIs how about a list on the site not stating prices, but only contact info. I hate to think a person would not take up the sport because he believed the nearest instructor was too far away. It would also help instructors not having to be members of every organization out there. Your input please.

This is what Marty was trying to say;

Welcome to the forum! "The BFI system is no longer around. All training in two-place LSA must be done by a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). For an instructor nearest you, try eaa and asc....."

I've become adept at interperting Marty's confusing statements about training matters. :D

I suggest you call your local FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) and ask for a list of PPC CFIs. You can get the the FSDO's number from 800 WIX BRIEF. The FSDO "controls" the CFIs, DARs etc and knows who they are and the FSDO is right in your area.

CE has just pointed you to the only game in town in your area.
The SP examiner for that group is from Pa. and goes there often and as required.

They are indeed good folks to fly with, learn from and know.

There are not a lot of places that lists CFIs for PPCs out there. Most of us on the list don't always keep up with who is and is not a CFI. EAA, USUA and other organizations try to keep a list of available CFIs for people looking for instructors. If I was asked where an instructor is, I could only point out a couple relatively close to me (with 150 miles). There may be more in that range. Like others here, I would direct those asking the questions to those organizations for a start.

Another place to ask is the manufacturer of your PPC, if they are still in business. If they don't have any CFIs to reference in your area they should have some dealers that may have additional information.

So there is no quick answer to your question.

Let me say it again: CALL YOUR LOCAL FSDO. They know.

The best place to start looking is the organizational lists. www.eaa.org and www.aerosports.org (ASC). These are list of instructor who requested to be on the list. They are likely the most active and available. These lists will have their location, type rating, phone number and/or an email address. The FAA does have a list, but it may not include a phone number or an email address. If you can't find a CFI close to you in the EAA or ASC directories, try the FAA's list. Nationwide there are only 104 CFIs with a PPC rating so find one close by and willing to instruct will be a challenge.
