I took one of my employees for his first ride last week, and --I can't say I didn't warn him-- but we got another one hooked! He can't stop talking about the flight and he is asking me questions constantly. He's a good kid, and I want to steer him in the right direction. He's in college, and likely wouldn't buy a PPC for a year or so - maybe longer. However, he'd like to take lessons and get started on Sport Pilot within the next year, depending on location, cost, etc... I've been giving him tons of information on the sport and offered to find out more regarding lessons. Anyone know of a good CFI within a reasonable distance of Northeast Ohio?

I'm about 4 hours east, if that helps any.

Frank,
There are 2 CFI's in Ohio, that I know of, Don Allen, Cortland, Ohio, who is also an examiner, and Sky Stargel. Here is Sky's info below. Ed McKinley knows Sky & has said he does a good job. Sky is also a Powrachute dealer.

Thanks, Phil. I know Don Allen, as he was my examiner for my SP rating. I was looking for someone else, as I understand that Don wouldn't be able to instruct as well as give the exam. I'll reach out to Sky.
BTW, I used to work in Victorville about 15 years ago. Sure gets hot out there in the high desert!

Frank,
Yes, I agree that it do get hot here, which helps the density altitude problems.

Don could train him, then he would need to fly with another CFI for 1 hour, that CFI would recommend him and then Don could do the practical test.
BTW, that 1 hour only applies if the training CFI is also an examiner.
Otherwise, and this is to make sure there is no confusion on this, (as there has been on this area) if he trains with Sky, does his 10 hours dual and the other requirements, passes the written test, if he takes his practical within 60 days of the sign off date on the 8710-11 form, then he is good to go.If he goes past that 60 days, then he needs the additional time with the CFI and another endorsement, new form, etc.
