Been following (somewhat) the posts about Ken's story's on Yahoo. One side takes the post as serious (maybe) and the other wants you to loosen up (or doubts your mental prowless) and have a sense of humor.
I have been flying for just a few years and have just now found these two boards with a wealth of new info.
But people that have been on here for a while might not realize what it is like when the sport of PPCing is growing as it is. I know there are a LOT more manufactures out there than just a few years ago. So I guessin a lot more flyers.
And I remember also how I felt when first flying...like true freedom. Like you can go anywhere....(airspace?! AIRSPACE?! I do't need no stinkin AIRSPACE!)
The people flying 103 might not really be getting enough of the training that they need...not just how to fly, but HOW to fly...if ya get my meaning. As far as some of the stories out there, I'll have to go along with Mike. There are some REAL doozies!
The guy that was trying to dip his foot into the Mississippi while flying. ( I had to expain what would happen to him if his back wheels even TOUCHED the water.) Or that hiitting 3 corn stalks in a row would be enough to suck your machine down into the field.
How about the guy flew 10ft off the roof of a public marina with people out along the shore fishing/boating/picknicking/etc....(saw it with my own eyes).
Flying over a town of 10,000+? No sweat...(saw that one too).
So (after a bit) I saw thru Ken's story also, but I can see how someone might have thought that there was someone crazy enough to do this. (I may have even met them!!) LOL
*Note But I don't fly with them! Not if, but when, the FAA is called in I don't want my chute associated in anyones memory with the others.
(For anyone new, the FAA does NOT give out $75 tickets like the troopers, more like a few THOUSAND dollars.)
So the point is I guess the people that have been in it for so long that they have more knowledge and have been associated in GA aircraft and reading on that list so long might find it implausable that someone would do something like that.
But as someone that is pretty new, has NO GA aircraft history, and seen all this nutty stuff (just flying stuff let alone all the INSANE stuff here on the net...like the Darwin Awards!) LOL well ya just never know....
===========================
DISCLAIMER: As for myself when I first got my machine I called the FAA (got the guys name & number) and asked questions.
Then I called the game warden. (kept his name & number too)Told him that I wanted to check regs before some woman called to say that I was chasing her pet deer. And asked just what the rules are. His answer: "You CANNOT harass the animals OR hunters."
I asked ok so I'm flyin along and a deer comes out of the woods. (no problem here) Do I get a second pass to take a picture? I get the same response. So I ask the same question...is the second pass harassing them? Probably not, BUT it would acutally be up to the arresting officer if HE thought it was. So there ya go folks. (BTW you ARE responsible for domestic livestock too.)
As it turned out, it wasn't a woman, but a guy that first griped about scaring deer. (But I WASN'T harassing them, just one ran out of a woods that my sister and I was flying over.) But thats another story.
PS Did I ever make my point here?
