Hunting from the air

Does anyone know where I can get a gun mount for hunting coyotes from my ppc?

Talking Re: Hunting from the air

Hi Skyhunter! Two friends of mine have both used shoulder-body slings. A solid mt would be a waste of time because of movement of the ppc. Have the shotgun slung to side of shooter with a loop around the body. If dropped you won't loose the gun and it won't go back into prop. It takes two to tango with coyotes. One to fly and one to shoot! Both friends use 12 ga, one with 00 buck and other #4 buck. Both hunt in New Mexico and on pvt ranches and I don't know the regs. When I left Az in 2001 I had given up hunting because it was being over-run by Mexicans sneaking thru my hunting area and scaring 'em off a stand. Good Luck. Phil

Re: Hunting from the air

Thanks for the info, I guess I wasn't thinking clearly about the motion of the ppc, that would make your shot accuracy very loose. Good news is, I have a 12 gauge, and a sling for it!

coyotes are varmints, you can hunt varmints year round legally in Texas, day or night, as long as you're not doing it from a road.

Re: Hunting from the air

After reading this thread and the others you have been posting to I'm not sure what's going to happen first; jail or serious injury.

We'll all know what happend to SkyHunter when he dissappears from the forum and never posts again. You'll need a good doctor to remove your foot from your mouth.

Re: Hunting from the air

why would my foot be in my mouth, and why would i disappear? are you wishing me death or injury just for being new, and so you can prove that flying this little ppc is actually very insanely hard and should be illegal because it's so stupidly dangerous? I will be flying this morning, so pray for my death I guess so you can be right. everyone else except for this one site has told me how easy these things are to fly, and they were right. What do you think we are doing with the ppc, going into orbit? no, just cruising around slowly at low altitude. lighten up, I would still like to make friends instead of enemies, but if I still get treated like a stepchild I will go on about my business and leave you guys alone.

Re: Hunting from the air

No one is saying it is hard to fly a PPC, it just isn't as easy as you think. You will have your foot in your mouth when you start shooting a gun from your PPC, though you could get lucky and no one will know.

I said you will disappear because you won't come back to the forum to tell everyone they were right and you were wrong. You won't be the first newbie to come to a PPC list and vanish with their tail between their legs when they realize they should have taken the advice of others who made their silly mistakes.

We are trying to help you! If you will listen, you can be a productive member of this forum and help others avoid the mistakes you were about to make.

Re: Hunting from the air

Flying was a lot of fun today. maybe sometime I can go watch someone else do it, but I am not paying for lessons, I think I have the hang of it. also, I may never hunt out of the ppc, it's a little cramped to be firing and aiming off of, but I guess I could try hitting them with old bowling balls, my uncle owns a bowling alley and just retired about 230 old balls and told me if I wanted them to come get them for free.

Re: Hunting from the air

Re-read the regs you read and see what they say about dropping things from your aircraft.

Re: Hunting from the air

SkyHunter,

PPC bombers are a no no as per 103 Regs and such conduct is detrimental to the sport where our numbers are going down each year.

And, as a former Marine door gunner with 1200 missions in two tours in Vietnam, I can tell you -- firing a weapon from an aircraft and hitting what you're shooting at takes time and many rounds to learn properly and accurately.
Leave it to young eyes belonging trained young men and keep your shotgun in it's case plezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Safe Sky's

Re: Hunting from the air

forget I ever mentioned anything about ppc's on this site, it was obviously a huge mistake. I will be flying out of a small airport north of Keller tomorrow if anyone wants to call the authorities to come slap my hand for not breaking any laws I welcome it. Oh, and I will definitely not be hunting from the air, my local Game Warden said you can only do it from a helicopter, so watch out critterculler these guys will turn you in if you try to make friends.
Goodbye Forever,
Hope I never meet any of you except Critterculler.
I'll be flying, you guys just keep on whining.

Re: Hunting from the air

SkyHunter,
Bravo! You have managed to provide an excellent example of how not to fly to all who read this forum! The dialog you started with the knowledgeable members of this forum was most informative. You found a way a new way to emphasize the importance of training without saying the same old things. Your exploration of dropping bowling balls, and shooting from a PPC are true genius. I must say that flying through a thunderstorm was a little over the top. Expecting anyone to think that a new pilot would fly in those conditions is a little much. You did however sound believable to anyone who has not actually flown. Again Bravo!
In the very small chance that this is not a joke, SkyHunter, I hope I have a chance to shake your hand (while it is still warm and has a pulse). The road to progress is paved with corpses of people like you, thanks for being a bad example.
